What do you do when you get bored? Well I know that when I was younger I could usually strike back at the notorious boredom. I rarely had an issue with it, but when I did I would always come up with something to break up the day to make it more interesting. The hard question that brings me to this post of the day, "What do you do when boredom strikes, but you are stuck at work?". Well first off, some people have a very boring job. If your job is a regular 9-5 and you do the same thing in and out, but you cannot find anything to break the monotony read on to just maybe find something.
I work a very boring job, which happens to be a government job. No please don't sent me letters regarding your complaints towards the government, my job is like the many that did not get paid during the government debt crisis. I literally do the same thing from day to day. I come to work and sit in a shop waiting for work to come my way. Since we are constantly waiting on parts we have very little work that can be done. That leads to a very long boring day. Things I have found that break up the day are few in number, but they are things that can lead to a day becoming very short. The first thing I do to pass time on my days that are absolutely boring is this, literally not playing! I will bring in my tablet and sync my keyboard and just write stuff. I have written reflections over my life while thinking about the past and things that have guided my life to this point and I have thought about the things I could have changed at the moment and I venture off to write about the ideal situation. I know that alot of you will look at this and look down upon writing since it is something that is thought to be school or nerdy related. Well honestly it is something that you can use to grow from and mature your writing skill. With a good writing skill comes more of a vocabulary and this is really just a side effect. If you write enough then eventually your vocabulary and ability to spell will grow. If you choose to type like I do then eventually through repetition your skills using a keyboard will improve. After all its really just muscle memory and the same as learning how to have perfect form when you squat in the gym. The second thing that keeps me going insane from boredom while confined at work is pretending to work. Yes, I just said that. What I mean by this is not to make it obvious, but to go over to a buddy that you would routinely have some sort of work with and make it seem as if you are working while you talk about the game, Xbox, or whatever seems to strike your fancy. I prefer to talk to my friends that I work with alot. I will go up and have some papers in my hand and act as if I am talking about some big project that is taking place. The key to this though is being quiet. If you are over there using your hands making crazy signs and being loud, especially loud laughter, more than likely you will be figured out. Kinda strange how smiling and laughing can have you shunned at some work places. If you are not too comfortable doing this then you can always do what I call the last resort. After I have tried to the first two things and they seem to not work at all I come up with something vague that is totally legit and let it branch off from there. Like earlier I was going to go up to the office to submit some documents and I ended up going to the store not too far down the way talking to a buddy for about five minutes and when I got back to my work area.. Well we were already packing things up. Now take into account that if you do have things to do I highly suggest you do those things to stay away from boredom, because really who are we questioning here. If you have things to do at work, but you don't.. Hmmm, chances are you will be fired. I usually do this if everybody in my area is just talking about whatever they talk about. Most of the time its comics and things I don't really do. I do however have a tendency to enjoy topics such as; computers, programming, photography, motorcycles, and whatever else I do on my off time. Now don't take my words out of context, I enjoy messing with computers and programming yes. Are those two hobbies my job, no. I am not well enough trained to do either of those for a living. I hope that you enjoyed this post and trust me I am getting my pics in the works, but until then I will keep posting things of some interest.
